Ozaukee county Law Enforcement Agencies refer criminal charges to the District Attorney's Office for review and possible prosecution. The Ozaukee county District Attorney's Office is responsible for the prosecution of all criminal cases in a criminal case is a case where the possible penalty is jail or prison. Additionally, the District Attorney's Office prosecutes all Ozaukee county Sheriff's Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Department of Natural Resources citations written within the county once a plea of not guilty is entered.

The District Attorney's Office represents certain state agencies in local actions including the Department of Workforce Development and the Department of Corrections. Also, the District Attorney's Office handles juvenile delinquency referrals received from the Department of Social Services. The District Attorney's Office additionally provides services to victims of these crimes through the Victim / Witness Program. The victim witness coordinator and assistant coordinator educate the victims of their legal rights and provide guidance through mail and phone contact as well as instructional material throughout the whole judicial process.
