Base Criteria
In order to be eligible to apply for the various programs offered by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, you must currently be a resident, have at least 2 years of active duty and meet one of the following criteria:

• Originally joined the Armed Forces from the State of Wisconsin and were a resident of the state at that time.
• Have lived in the State of Wisconsin for 5 consecutive years at any time in your life.

Special Circumstance Criteria
There are some "special" circumstances under which you need not have completed a full 2 years of active service. These include:

• 90 days of active duty during a designated war period
• Have been awarded certain campaign or expeditionary medals
• Certain National Guard or Reserve members may also qualify

Survivors of eligible veterans may also qualify for some benefits.
